Itchy gel can be applied to any itchy area, as long as the skin isn't broken, and to areas that need additional protection - such as the base of the mane and the head of the tail. Reapply as required, usually this will be twice per day, but be guided by the response from your horse.
Aloe vera gel, neem (Azadirachta indica) oil, sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) essential oil, peppermint (Mentha piperita) essential oil.
Aloe vera gel and essential oils are generally non-irritating and non-sensitising to the skin. However, essential oils do contain naturally occurring allergens in small quantities and some horses are sensitive to neem, so we strongly recommend a small patch test before proceeding with general use, particularly for horses with a known history of allergies or sensitive skin.
Just started to use the Itchy Gel. It smells amazing which has created the problem that my pony is so desperate to eat it I have trouble getting it on him.
I’ve been applying it to the top of his tail and along his neck/mane to help with seasonal itching and it seems to be working as he is not rubbing in the way that he was. I’ve also been applying it to any midge bits that I have found to calm the itch. I also use the Icardin spray.
Excellent product immediate relief for my horse
I'm not usually one for 'lotions, potions and miracle cures' but my little Exmoor seems to be the midges favourite snack this year and was getting upset. INSTANT relief! The look on her little face when if first put it on said it it all. I've been using it morning and evening underneath her belly/inner thighs/udder where the midges had really bitten her, and massaging it onto her dock. From what I can tell she hasn't rubbed her tail since I've been putting this on, it's usually like a birds nest. This is definitely going to be part of my summer essentials kit from now on 😊
Thank you for sharing!
I use this in conjunction with the spray oil. My mare was very itchy throughout the summer, although it wasn't sweet itch. I was using this on her mane, forelock and top of her tail and she did stop itching. It smells gorgeous, and not only that it's great for if you get bitten as well and softening your hands. I'm prepared for this summer if nothing else.
I haven't used this product yet but I am hoping it will be a godsend through the summer
Well, either the horse flies have all vanished. . . Or this stuff REALLY works!
The only flyspray that actually works! My horses dont mind being covered in this either any other spray and they run away. Says it all for me! Another 10/10 product from Hedgewitch.
It works! I have been using this product for a number of years, with the odd trial of other products, but always return to this one as it’s the only fly repellent that works! Love it.
Quiet simply it's fab. It smells wonderful and my friends horse licks it off and it has to be reapplied.
We have been using it for about a week now and we can both see an improvement in our horses hooves. I would highly recommend this product.
I have a grey mare. It cleaned her mane and tail beautifully, snd it’s easy to rinse off. The lavender oil is the perfect finish.
This product is just amazing it works so well without the horrible smell. I spray my two boys in the morning and it works all day.
Fabulous product. This oil soaks really well into the hooves and has made such a difference to my horse’s feet in this very dry weather. No signs of cracking.
Horse oil is amazing for brushing and detangling manes, tails and feather. I also use it before clipping which saves bathing a horse in cold weather. The scent of this is amazing too.
Our pony has previously rubbed her ears raw, had scabs all up her mane, a bog brush tail from ribbing, chewed her hips and backs of her knees. Coming into the itchy season this year, I have used nothing but Hedgewitch horse oil and she has a full main and tail and no rubs on her body or legs. She is turned out with no fly rug now (as that seemed to make her worse) just sprayed all over with the orange horse oil.
I use this for so many things. Itchy horses, manes and tails and it's really useful for keeping nuisance flies away from the horses in the stable.
