Hedgewitch icaridin is a human insect repellent that provides an effective alternative to DEET. It contains Icaridin at 20%, judged to be as effective as 50% DEET by the World Health Organisation. It is one of just three active ingredients recommended for use in malarial regions and can help protect against other nasty diseases carried by insects.

Its key strength is to provide protection from biting flies such as mosquitoes, midges, horseflies, sand flies, fleas, and ticks. Suitable for use on children over 2-years and sensitive skin.

Hedgewitch icaridin contains no added fragrances, so you don’t have to smell like a perfumery to keep insects at bay. It works by confusing biting insects’ ability to accurately locate you so they aren’t able to land. Good coverage is essential for the best protection from bites and we recommend using with our adjustable trigger spray, adjusted to mist, for best results.

Absolutely not. Hedgewitch is entirely cruelty-free. The active ingredient we use, Saltidin®, has a static, historical safety dossier from its development in the late 1990s. UK and EU laws strictly forbid replicating these tests. Today, any safety adaptations or formulation checks are done 100% via modern in vitro (non-animal) laboratory modeling.

We choose a nature-modelled molecule, Saltidin®, because it provides superior, long-lasting protection against midges and horseflies without the high risk of skin sensitisation, allergies, or aquatic toxicity associated with many concentrated natural oils. Furthermore, it allows us to fully register our product with the HSE, ensuring we operate transparently and legally.

Horse use is in the pipeline but until we receive HSE authorisation, it remains an off-label use. If you do decide to use off-label, the 150ml bottle and pump spray is not suitable as it cannot deliver the quantity needed for sufficient coverage.

Currently our icaridin products are authorised for human use and labelled accordingly. Use on dogs is an off-label application. The brand name of the icaridin we use in our products is Saltidin and you will find more information about whether this is safe for canine use by using a search engine and entering 'Salditin for Dogs'
