Hedgewitch icaridin is a human insect repellent that provides an effective alternative to DEET. It contains Icaridin at 20%, judged to be as effective as 50% DEET by the World Health Organisation. It is one of just three active ingredients recommended for use in malarial regions and can help protect against other nasty diseases carried by insects.

Its key strength is to provide protection from biting flies such as mosquitoes, midges, horseflies, sand flies, fleas, and ticks. Suitable for use on children and sensitive skin.

Hedgewitch icaridin contains no added fragrances, so you don’t have to smell like a perfumery to keep insects at bay. It works by confusing biting insects’ ability to accurately locate you so they aren’t able to land. Good coverage is essntial for the best protection from bites.

Perfect for a quick spritz before any summer outdoor activities e.g. walking, gardening fishing, or for an evening BBQ to keep biting midges away. Icaridin is also perfect to take on your holidays for protection against mosquitoes.

No smell, no nasties, no bitey flies

Summary info

How it works: Icaridin is nature-modelled, a copy of piperidin which occurs naturally in black pepper plants. The way icaridin works really is magic, it makes you almost invisible to biting insects. Even though they may still buzz around, they have trouble locating you accurately enough to land.

Supplied in a handy-sized bottle, Hedgewitch icaridin is a cost-effective insect repellent. The bottle can be reused by refilling from the larger 500ml or 2.5L sizes.

Less packaging waste: The bottle is made from the residues of sugar cane after it has been processed, utilising a waste product from a fully renewable resource. The bottle is supplied with a plastic top; all are recyclable.

Midge spray

Used the spray on all exposed areas during a recent trip to Scotland (Aug 2025). The midge forecast for the area around Ben Nevis was a 3 and it was warm and damp. The repellent was effective and I came away with only one small bite.

So far so good!

So far so good!!! Bought for the horseflies we have in abundance in the garden (as well as everything else!). They certainly aren’t landing on our flesh anymore… just our clothes so will spray them too in future! Good job!
