Our horse oils are plant-based, sustainable alternatives to pig oil, made specifically to meet the needs of horses. All are suitable for protecting legs and feather from mud and wet conditions, as grooming aids, and as a long-lasting mane and tail conditioner/detangler.

Horse Oil with sweet orange & peppermint essential oils helps to discourage biting insects, such as feather mites and midges.

Used 2-3 times a week during winter, Hedgewitch horse oil has natural antioxidant and antibacterial properties to help support the health and resilience of your horse’s skin through the wet months.

Multiple uses:

  • protects from mud and wet conditions
  • helps protect from mites
  • alleviates itching
  • shines & conditions
  • detangles with a longer-lasting effect than silicone sprays
  • aids grooming
  • aids effortless clipping, eliminating 'lines'

This essential oil combination is a proven Hedgewitch pairing that provides relief from itching and inflammation. A daily application to the coat of horses known to suffer from sweet itch or seasonal itching can help manage the symptoms. Read our blog post for more information. For horses with sweet itch, always use with an insect repellent with proven efficacy against midges.

Horse oil can be used on feather and legs to protect them from the effects of mud and wet, help prevent ‘bog burn’ and mud fever, and help discourage mites.

Horse oil can also be applied sparingly to the coat, mane, and tail to leave the hair silky, shiny, and tangle-free—we advise spritzing using our trigger spray or adding it sparingly to a bucket of warm water as a 'hot oil' application.

Sustainably sourced—made from the oil found in coconuts sourced from sustainable plantations. The coconut oil is heated to separate out the long-chain fatty acids and produce a very light, food-grade oil—using no chemicals in the extraction process. The resulting non-greasy oil is easily absorbed by the skin and moisturises without blocking pores.

Hedgewitch horse oil is 100% plant-based and can be used in exactly the same way as pig oil but without the carbon footprint (pig oil is white oil from petrochemicals).

Brilliant stuff!! Made my boy's tail gleam and was so easy to apply. His thick cob tail is so easy to brush through once I've applied the oil.
Only con - smells so divine that he tries to bend himself in two to get to his tail 😬
